In 2012, a few months after the possession of my first house, a substantial oil spill was discovered beneath the foundation. Putting aside my desire to renovate, nest, and create new memories in this place, I documented my family’s journey through the remediation process. Experiencing an environmental contamination in my home gave me agency to explore the topic of sustainability and oil. More specifically, what it really means for those who live in proximity to contaminated sites that pose similar risks.
